1st Lady of The West Coast

The 1st Lady of the West Coast, as she is known, is a true Queen of cannabis cultivation. The first black woman to have her own cannabis strains, she is the Founder and CEO of Herb of Life Cultivation, LLC, in California and has created three strains to date: Flotwckush, December Nights OG and Black Girl Magic OG

Flotwckush, December Nights OG and Black Girl Magic OG

She has been learning about cannabis and its healing effects for over eight years, starting in 2010 with help from Joseph Reznee at Oakland, California’s Harborside Dispensary. In addition, she has helped guide medical patients and adult customers understand, select and purchase cannabis products, such as flower, concentrates, edibles and topicals, thanks to her knowledge. She has also studied packaging and trimming to better comprehend all facts of the industry, making her a powerhouse of knowledge.

Her education includes degrees from the Art Institutes of San Francisco and Las Vegas.

She is also a true creative visionary: a vocal artist, emcee, filmmaker, performer and producer. Truly a Renaissance woman, her accomplishments cannot be summed up in so brief a biography. One need only meet her to capture her very essence and glory.

Blunts and Moore

A child of Yahweh, husband, father, hard worker, hustla, Alphonso (Tucky) Blunt Jr., is a true testament to walking your path. The Co-owner of both Proud Papas clothing and Blunts + Moore dispensary, is a 5th generation Oakland native, that has opened the 1st dispensary under Oakland’s Cannabis Equity Program.

While growing up in Oakland during the war on drugs era, he managed to stay out of trouble and maintain a 4.0 gpa and a full time job while in high school. He was also using and selling cannabis. Cannabis sales to him was another form of employment. In 1999 while on an errand with his grandmother, she had him go to a dispensary, from that day forward his mission was to own one for himself, so he could sale cannabis legally. He worked at and was a vendor for multiple bay area dispensaries from 1999-2004. In 2003 he attempted to become an owner of a dispensary, and was told blacks would never own in this business. In 2004 he was arrested for possession with the intent to sale, and given 10 years of felony probation with a 4 way search clause. Still determined to learn more on the legal side, he attended and graduated from Oaksterdam University in 2008. In true path formation, had he not been arrested, he would not have qualified for the equity program…

Now as the 1st person to open a dispensary under Oakland’s Equity program, he is finally continuing on that path of ownership. His goals and values are still spiritual and family driven. With the help of his partner Bri Moore, they look to change the face of the cannabis industry, one location at a time. Blunts + Moore opened its doors on November 29th, 2018 to a huge crowd, great food, and lifted spirits. A native born son, selling cannabis legally in OAKLAND!!!

My Truth

Although I am not sure if anyone ever reads these things I am always challenged to put my beliefs and ideals in the atmosphere. Still struggling with my reality versus what I have learned.

My reality is, I am a Black woman in an America that doesn’t identify with my struggle. That although I am what one would consider “working class” I am still fighting my way out of the poverty brown bag.

What I was taught, is that black women in church are seen and not heard, unless I can sing or it’s women’s day.

I am not sure how what I was taught is supposed to help my reality which is part of the reason I have issues. I struggle with having a voice and using it. Along with understanding that I have a voice and should be using it. SMH What I have been taught collides with my reality daily.

Being an advocate for Cannabis has isolated me from some friends but allowed me to make new ones. I’ve had to take a stand on ideas that I felt were important but went against what others thought were essential. I’m not always on an island but I am sure every activist/advocate feels like they are alone and the work is too much. Even worst does the work matter? Am I making a difference?

As a lobbyist I struggled with my humility. Negotiating decisions that will effect my community. Understanding what my community may not understand. Along with testifying on behalf of my community, fully knowing that my community didn’t choose me, I stood up. Yea, this is my truth.

I’m crying even as I type.

I wake up some days and hope that I have all the answers or at least one answer. At least I have learned that it is ok to say, “I don’t know.” Which is growth, because I really don’t.

You’re probably wondering what does any of this have to do with Cannabis? It has everything to do with it. Cannabis hasn’t just become my business it is my cause and with that comes an awareness that I never had before. Cannabis is a Social Justice issue that spans across, economic justice, housing, homelessness, veterans, mothers, children, criminal justice reform, and race relations. Yea, Cannabis is the nations Pandora’s Box of Policy.

Today, I study more than anything else. Reading statutes and regulations across America and abroad. Trying to understand how I can best serve my sisters and brothers across America gain the posture they need in their states along with battling my own battles in my State.

This is my truth, mostly I am babbling but I hope this encourages someone to stay the course.
