CBD Saved My Sons Life

Last weekend I had a crisis with my 15 year old son. He had an anxiety attack during school hours. The attack was intense enough to make my son consider suicide.

A few months ago I decided to put my teenage son in therapy. There were no real alarms or red flags. I was just being a mom that wanted my son to have good physical and mental health. As a victor over child abuse I understand the importance of being able to communicate your thoughts and feeling with someone that just gets it. I felt very alone as a teenager and I never wanted my son to feel as I did.

Many years ago I noticed my son was having a difficult time focusing in school. I started doing research on CBD and ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder). I never wanted to medicate my son however all the methods we had been using weren’t having good results. All the information I read said that it could help. I knew I was having great results from using CBD oil regularly. I hopymy soon would as well.

The results were amazing and he’s been using it for years. Unfortunately it’s difficult to ensure a teenager takes his medicine EVERY DAY!

Friday, during school one of the teachers noticed ny son didn’t look himself. He questioned his physical health and my son answered he was fine. Later that day he approached a teacher he trusts and shared how he was feeling. That teacher called his uncle that works at the school he attends. By the time my brother in love got to my son my son was in full panic mode. His heart was beating fast and he was calmly suggesting he should kill himself. His panic was so real you could feel it through his chest.

My brother in love talked to my son until he felt his heart slow down. Asked had he taken his supplement, my son had not. The uncle gave him his CBD supplement and they went home. By the time it was bed time he was calm and relaxed.

Turns out my son hadn’t taken his supplements in months.

The following morning he took another dose of CBD and had a phone conversation with his therapist. Although we all agreed he was feeling better my son insisted he wanted to be checked into a center.

Saturday afternoon, 2pm I checked my son into a mental health center for youth. Yes, this black mom had to admit her black man child into a mental health Center for youth.

5 years ago I wouldn’t have EVER been able to deal with my son’s mental health with the same urgency as I do with his physical health. Before Cannabis I was under the impression only black people with real issues go to therapy and or people that can afford it. The post Cannabis me has served thousands of Black adults with non diagnosed mental health issues like anger, depression, high stress levels, anxiety, and bipolar. Many of them had been self medicating with weed since the age my son is now.

Today my son is feeling well. He’s back in school and he’s taking his CBD daily.

Stay Engaged

On Sunday night I had a conversation with my team about staying engaged with our patience.

It’s been 37 days since we’ve been recreational and I’ve seen as many people in those days as I have all year. It’s been overwhelming! I feel like I’m being pulled in 100 different directions and I haven’t necessarily been effective.

It’s not my intent to be absent in the moment but it’s happened more times than I’d like to admit.

Sunday I had an African American couple come into the dispensary RIGHT BEFORE WE CLOSED! I could see they were skeptic but I was “too busy” to consult them. I was in the cage watching them go from one consultant to another.

They were in our consultation space for 45 min.

I have EXCELLENT consultants but on this particular Sunday, none of my consultants were African American.

As I watched the couple in my camera I began mumbling to myself, “why were they taking so long?” Why in the hell hadn’t my consultants closed this deal. What the hell was the problem?!

I sat in the cage fuming. I was tired and I wanted to go home!

We close at 6:00pm. At 6:15 they Finally came to the cashier. As the cashier was repeating their order, they turned around and started walking to another display case asking questions.

By this time I’M OVER IT! I come out of the cage with the intent to get them out of my store. As I’m walking from the cage to them I catch a glimpse of my reflection in the glass window. I see the sternness of my face and in that moment..I was aware and awoke.
I relaxed my jaw and reminded myself why I get up every morning.
As I approached the couple I could see their concern. I asked the questions I knew no one had asked. The same questions I always ask my patience.

1. What will we be using Cannabis for?

2. What are you currently using?

3. What part of Cannabis frightens you?

Anytime I’m going to Consult I know I need the WHOLE story and my people love to tell me their stories. That’s how I’m able to be most effective.
I found out He was a diabetic bus driver with chronic back pain and arthritis. He  can not use THC.

I suggested some things but because I suggested something completely different from my consultants he was skeptical.

By this time it’s 6:30 pm and my team is watching.
I’m finally COMPLETELY engaged with this couple. I’ve made up my mind that they were leaving believers.

I pulled out my handy sample kit. Sprayed his hands with a CBD pain elixir. Kept talking to him in a calm voice and waited for him to feel the relief.
His pain subsided, he was amazed. My team was in awe and I had finally won his trust.

It’s easy to disregard the people by “doing business as usual” but that is NOT why I fell in love with Cannabis.

I fell in love because I love to serve and I knew, if the people would believe, Cannabis could assist my people that suffer with lifetime illnesses have a better quality of life.

I’m NEVER doing business as usual. I don’t care about impressing people. I’m ALWAYS looking for the next opportunity to make an impact.

It is my pleasure to serve.

Marijuana for Pain Instead of Pain Pills

The most frequent question asked this week in the dispensary has been, ” How do I use marijuana to manage my pan?”

Although the answer would seem simple, the symptoms are not. I’ve had patients come in to the dispensary with illnesses ranging in severity from arthritis to multiple sclerosis. The pain ranging from mild to consistently agonizing. Each time I’m offering a different remedy for the question. The one thing that is consistent in all my suggestions is the use of CBD.

The cannabinoid CBD acts an anti-inflammatory and can be used everyday without any psychoactive activities happening in the patient. I typically will suggest CBD as an every day supplement or with the use of a transdermal patch.

Its easier to ask patients to use marijuana in forms that are non intrusive than to ask someone that’s never smoked before  to begin smoking. However, very often if the pain is severe or if the patient has already built an addiction or need for opiot based pain killers, we will suggest THC in microdoses to ease pain.

We’re in a world of the Evolution of marijuana and because of that you can eat it, vape it, bathe in it, lotion with it, drink it like a cough syrup, use it as a lip balm etc…

There are many ways a person can use marijuana as a treatment without changing their lifestyle or adopting a new one.

Weed Without The High

One of the things I find that is most difficult in the cannabis business is educating or reeducating People of Color. There are usually 2 types of people. One that has been smoking all their life and think they know what “good weed” is. Or the person that has been taught marijuana is the devil! Either way, People of Color tend to not understand the therapeutic or holistic healing properties of cannabis. I believe it is because we have been programmed to believe that there aren’t any OTHER uses for marijuana EXCEPT to get high. The “Reefer Madness” or “War on Drugs” mentality has People of Color scared to try marijuana as a holistic treatment.

Most of the conversations I have with minorities begin with their belief system. They will disseminate their belief system as if they’re trying to get me to believe.  I am a good listener but not always a great tolerante. I will listen to a person argue with themselves about how marijuana will or won’t help them. However, I won’t tolerate someone arguing with me about it. Especially as it relates to religion. I am a professional in a field that I have passion for.  It’s  not the best use of my time to discuss religion and medicine or medicine as it relates to religion. I am always careful to stay on the subject matter and deal with the facts.

Fact 1. I KNOW Marijuana works for various ailments because I have witnessed the results.

Fact 2. You can try Cannabis without getting high.

In the Dispensary where I work, Marijuana is being used as a treatment for ailments like high blood pressure, gout, blood clots, sciatic nerve, dementia, scabies, sickle cell, lupus, cancer, migraines and many others. Not all the treatments require a person to get high. As a matter of fact, there is a great increase of patients that are opting for forms of marijuana that will ensure them not being high. What I love about CBD is the patients can get relief for their ailments, some euphoria and very little side effects. This isn’t a conversation where I am trying to convince you that cannabis works. This is a conversation where I  am saying, “hey, I work with medical marijuana patients EVERYDAY and I see Marijuana working!”

There are 3 reasons why most people won’t try marijuana as a holistic treatment;

  1. Don’t want to get high. ( which makes no sense since most people are getting high off of some other prescription drug anyway)
  2. Don’t want to smoke as a treatment and
  3. Don’t want anyone to know they are using marijuana as a treatment.

My answer to those 3 reasons are;

  1.  Try CBD (CBD. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of at least 113 active cannabinoids identified in cannabis. CBD clinical reports show the lack of side effects, particularly a lack of psychoactivity (as is typically associated with ∆9-THC). CBD can be used to relieve anxiety, kills and slows bacterial growth, reduces blood sugar levels, and acts as a inflammatory.
  2.  Smoking isn’t the only way to use marijuana as a treatment. You can eat it, vape it or swallow it in pill form.
  3. If you don’t tell anyone that you are using marijuana as a treatment….. no one will know. (smdh)

Marijuana can be used as a holistic alternative for the Nervous System, Digestive System, Muscular & Skeletal System, Endocrine System & Immune Response, Circulatory System and Whole Body Relief and protection. I am not trying to say it is a miracle drug but what I am hoping is that more minorities change their minds regarding marijuana and try it as a treatment. Don’t allow our history to hold us back from experiences a better quality of life.
